Short bio:
Eduard C. Popovici is an Associate Professor, Head of the SAIM Lab, at POLITEHNICA Bucharest, with a Ph.D. in Telecommunications (2001) and extensive expertise in software architecture. As a former Director of the Telecom Department at the ETTI Faculty, he has driven forward research and education in communications, AI, and autonomous cybersecurity systems. His work spans from developing autonomous cybersecurity systems to advancing innovative solutions in modern communication networks, including 4G/5G communications, Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, quantum computing, and cybersecurity software solutions. An entrepreneur and promoter of technology transfer, he initiated the SMICES Cybersecurity Master program. Today, he collaborates with NVIDIA to establish a national community of AI researchers and developers in Romania (together with other industry leaders), enhancing the local tech ecosystem through the integration of AI advancements in academia, industry, and education. He authored and co-authored over 50 scientific papers in prestigious conferences. Over his career, he participated in over 40 research projects, including more than 20 international initiatives. He worked on projects like BRAVIS, RIWCOS/802.21, BIOMETRIC, FF-RIWER, and DEFRAUDIFY4ALL as a software engineer and system architect. He designed and built frameworks for biometric security, environmental monitoring, distributed videoconferencing systems, and fraud protection services.
