Short bio (1st person):

I am an Associate Professor in the Telecommunications Department at the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest and Head of the Solutions based on Agility, Innovation and Multidisciplinarity — SAIM Lab. I received my PhD in Telecommunications in 2001 and I am an Associate Professor in the Telecommunications Department at the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest and Head of the Solutions based on Agility, Innovation and Multidisciplinarity — SAIM Lab. I received my PhD in Telecommunications in 2001 and served as Director of the Telecommunications Department between 2016 and 2020. During more than two decades of academic and applied research, I have participated in over 40 research projects, including more than 20 international initiatives, and have authored or co-authored more than 60 scientific publications. My research evolved from distributed multimedia systems, SIP/VoIP and QoS to IEEE 802.21 mobility and vertical handover, behavioural biometrics, continuous authentication, applied cybersecurity, IoT and edge–cloud systems, and, more recently, AI/ML, microservices and autonomous agents. Throughout this trajectory, I have combined software architecture, experimental validation, academic programme development, student mentorship and collaboration with industry.

I frame my approach through my own M.I.T. Triad — Multidisciplinarity, Interdisciplinarity and Transdisciplinarity: multiple domains examine the same problem, methods and decision processes work together toward a common solution, and useful mechanisms are creatively transferred across domains without losing their meaning. After completing my recent research contribution within Arrowhead fPVN, I am currently working on AI-native software architectures, secure interoperability, AI-assisted requirements engineering, digital twins, trustworthy AI and autonomous decision systems. I am also involved in ANTIDOTE, an EU-funded MSCA Staff Exchanges project focused on adversarial and trustworthy AI for smart healthcare. My emerging research direction addresses UAV/C-UAS ecosystems, radio-spectrum intelligence, resilient drone communications, multi-sensor fusion and human-in-the-loop decision support. My recent work includes secure AI-native architectures for smart food systems, explainable deep learning for medical imaging, and reinforcement-learning agents for autonomous logistics..

Eduard-Cristian Popovici is an Associate Professor in the Telecommunications Department at the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest and Head of the Solutions based on Agility, Innovation and Multidisciplinarity — SAIM Lab. He received his PhD in Telecommunications in 2001 and served as Director of the Telecommunications Department between 2016 and 2020. Over more than two decades of academic and applied research, he has participated in over 40 research projects, including more than 20 international initiatives, and has authored or co-authored more than 60 scientific publications. His research trajectory spans distributed multimedia systems, SIP/VoIP and QoS, IEEE 802.21 mobility and vertical handover, behavioural biometrics and continuous authentication, applied cybersecurity, IoT and edge–cloud systems, and, more recently, AI/ML, microservices and autonomous agents. Across these directions, he combines software architecture, experimental validation, academic programme development, student mentorship and industry collaboration.

Having completed his recent research contribution within Arrowhead fPVN, he currently focuses on AI-native software architectures, secure interoperability, AI-assisted requirements engineering, digital twins, trustworthy AI and autonomous decision systems.
